#ENDSARS: IGP CONDEMNS ATTACK ON POLICEMEN, OTHER ASSETS IN DELTA
Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has condemned the attack on policemen, operational vehicles and other assets by #ENDSARS protesters in Ughelli, Delta State, on October 8, 2020.
In recent days, Nigerians have taken to the streets to protest against the exploitation, harassment, extra judicial killings, and extortion from operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS).
The IGP, in statement on Friday, October 9, revealed that the #ENDSARS protesters murdered one policeman identified as Corporal Etaga Stanley, injured another policeman identified as Sergeant Patrick Okuone, and stole an AK47 rifle with 25 rounds of ammunition
The police chief described the incident as cruel and warned that the Force will no longer tolerate any attack on its personnel or any member of the law enforcement community by any individual or group.
Adamu stated that protest by citizens remain a legitimate means for airing their concerns and views but it must be carried out with all sense of responsibility and within the confines of the law.

The IGP said he has directed the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, to carry out a discrete investigation into the unfortunate incident, and ensure the perpetrators are brought to face the law
Recall that on Sunday, October 4, 2020, the police chief banned operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) and other Tactical Squads of the Force, from carrying out routine patrols and other conventional low-risk duties.
Also, on Tuesday, October 6, he ordered the investigation of all recent cases of abuses of power and violation of rights by FSARS operatives and other tactical squads.
