Enugu Forest Guard Rescues Kidnap Victim, Arrests Four Suspects in Intelligence-Led Operation
Operatives of the Enugu State Forest Guard have rescued a kidnapped man and arrested four suspected criminals during an intelligence-led operation in the Ette Sector of Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area.
According to the Forest Guard, the operation followed credible intelligence that a young man, identified as Samson Eleje Abah, had allegedly been lured into a forest and abducted by suspected criminals. Security operatives swiftly launched a rescue mission and successfully freed the victim without injury.
During the operation, three suspects—Reuben Okwudili, Reuben Gebechukwu Chinoso, and Reuben Emeka—were arrested and handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and prosecution.
Further intelligence gathered during the operation led to the arrest of John Agbo, a resident of Ofante Egberi in Kogi State, who is alleged to have travelled to the area to perform ritual activities linked to the suspected abduction. He has also been transferred to the police for further investigation.
The Forest Guard said preliminary findings and consultations with community leaders revealed that residents had previously raised concerns over the alleged criminal activities of some of the suspects and had shared intelligence with security agencies. Community leaders reportedly condemned the incident and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting security agencies with timely information. They also announced traditional sanctions against the family of the principal suspects in line with local customs, while stressing that criminality would not be tolerated in the community.
The agency described the operation as another major success for its intelligence-driven security strategy and reaffirmed its commitment to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes across Enugu State.
The Commander of the Enugu State Forest Guard, Dr. Akinbayo O. Olasoji, commended the operatives for their professionalism and swift response. He urged residents to continue providing credible intelligence to security agencies, emphasizing that public cooperation remains vital in the fight against crime. He added that the Forest Guard would sustain aggressive patrols and strengthen collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to ensure criminal elements have no safe haven in the state.
